The Department of Health and Sport Studies at the University of Iowa also offers master's and doctoral degrees in Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity. Students pursue research in sports psychology, as well as interdisciplinary studies with other university departments including Epidemiology, Counselor Education, and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. The master's degree usually takes two to three years to complete, and the doctoral program can take up to eight years.

Capella University offers an MS in psychology with a sport psychology specialization. This program is conducted entirely online, so it is an option for students who aren't able to relocate for other programs or who need a more flexible schedule. The degree is intended for school coaches and instructors, fitness club, parks and recreation, sport camp or wellness center employees. Because the degree is completed online, you can take as much time as you want to finish the program.
