Colleges That Offer Masters in Psychology

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has announced that job opportunities for those holding a master's degree in psychology will be good in this year and the coming year. Clinical and school psychologists can expect an 11 percent increase in job prospects, and industrial-organizational psychology is predicted to grow by as much as 26 percent. Many U.S. colleges combine the master's and doctoral degree programs; however, there are a growing number of terminal master's degree programs in psychology.

    • The Chicago School of Professional Psychology has master's programs on campuses in two states and in Washington, D.C.

      The Chicago School of Professional Psychology has campuses in California and Washington, D.C., as well as in Illinois. The Chicago campus offers four specialized Master of Arts degrees: Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Psychology with a counseling specialization and Clinical Psychology with an applied behavior analysis specialization. Students in the graduate program for applied behavior analysis may study 14 additional credit hours to qualify for Illinois certification as a mental health professional.

    California State University, Long Beach

    • California State University offers a dual degree in psychology and human factors.

      The Psychology Department at California State University, Long Beach, offers two Master of Science degrees and one Master of Arts degree. The M.S. in Human Factors permits the study of human behavior to aid in the proper and safe design of products. The M.S. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology is a flexible program permitting students to work for up to 20 hours per week while pursuing a degree. The M.A. in Psychological Research is a two-year program with core coursework in general psychology and additional study in quantitative methods.

    Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg

    • Pennsylvania State University provides a track of study leading to state licensure.

      Students pursuing the Master of Arts degree in Applied Clinical Psychology at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg, are required to complete 48 credit hours of which 23 are dedicated to core studies in behavior, research and ethics. An optional 12-credit certificate for licensure as a clinical health professional in the state of Pennsylvania is available upon completion of required courses that include child psychology and neurological assessment.

    Sam Houston State University

    • Sam Houston State University offers an option to qualify as a school psychology specialist.

      In addition to offering a Master of Arts degree in both general and clinical psychology, Sam Houston State University offers a specialized Master in School Psychology. The degree can lead to certification by the National Association of School Psychologists and to a qualification as a licensed specialist in school psychology in Texas.
