Colleges in Michigan That Offer Nursing Degrees

Nursing schools in Michigan are available to interested students seeking a career in the medical field. These schools prepare potential candidates to work as patient care advocates and caretakers while also filling a need in today's health care system. Upon completion of these programs, students will have a Bachelor of Science Degree and be able to take the national nursing exam for licensure.
  1. Wayne State University

    • Wayne State University offers an accredited Bachelor of Science Degree on a traditional three-year track and an accelerated track that can be completed in 16 months. With completion of prerequisite course work, traditional students take 61 semester hours of dedicated nursing courses such as Nursing Implications of Drug Administration and Introduction to Nursing Research. Students with a prior degree and entering the accelerated program take 61 hours of nursing courses such as Pathophysiology Related to Nursing Practice and Leadership and Management in Nursing Practice. New students must apply to Wayne State University, the nursing program and have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA (grade point average) on all prerequisite work. Existing undergraduates must apply to the nursing program and have a 2.5 GPA. Once candidates have successfully completed the program, they are eligible to take the state exam for registered nurses to be licensed.

    The University of Michigan

    • The University of Michigan has an accredited four-year nursing program that provides a Bachelor of Science Degree. They begin their studies in the actual nursing program that integrates nursing and prerequisites together. Candidates require a total of 128 semester hours to graduate. The first two years cover science, math, English and introduction to nursing classes while the last two years are dedicated to nursing courses. Interested students must have three high school English courses, three math courses, two science courses (chemistry must be one), two social science courses, two foreign language courses and four general studies courses to apply. SAT or ACT scores, an application to the school, a counselor recommendation form and an official high school transcript are also needed to be considered for admission. Upon completion of this program, candidates can take the state nursing exam to gain their license.

    Michigan State University

    • Michigan State University is an accredited school offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon completion of prerequisite classes, candidates enter a two-year program with 58 dedicated semester hours of nursing classes such as Acute Nursing Care of Adults and Community Health and Population Nursing. Interested candidates must apply to the nursing school once all prerequisites are finished, must maintain a 2.75 GPA in all sciences, must have two recommendation letters, need a resume and proof of relevant work experience or community service. Graduates of this program are prepared and eligible to take the state nursing exam.
