The American Career College in Los Angeles offers students an Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Surgical Technology. This program teaches students that there is more to the career of surgical technology than passing instruments, and, after competition of the educational studies, students are placed in a clinical program to learn on-the-job skills. Courses include anatomy and physiology; medical law and ethics; surgical techniques; operating room fundamentals; microbiology; pharmacology; and pathophysiology.

Students attending Concorde Career Colleges have the opportunity to choose from three California locations: North Hollywood, San Bernadino or San Diego. Each campus offers training by working professionals in the field of surgical technology. The program takes 14 months. Students receive training in direct patient care; preparing and maintaining the sterile field; and assisting surgeons. In addition, all students must complete 720 hours of clinical practice at area hospitals before graduation.
