Respiratory Therapist Schools in NYC

Respiratory therapists are responsible for the evaluation, treatment and care of patients experience breathing issues.     • Students attending the Borough of Manhattan Community College earn an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy and are eligible to take the Certification and Registry Examinations upon graduation. Three general education courses are required in addition to the core classes. Students receive training in skills such as respiratory therapy equipment, pulmonary function testing, cardio-respiratory physiology and pharmacology. Clinical practices are also required before graduation.

    Long Island University - Brooklyn

    • Located in the NYC suburb of Brooklyn, the Long Island University respiratory therapy program provides students with the opportunity to earn a bachelor of science degree. The program requires four years to complete and combines classroom training with hands-on clinical practice to provide students with a well rounded education. Courses are available in the fields of acute and chronic disease, mechanical ventilation support, pulmonary function testing, hemodynamic monitoring and airway management. Graduates must also complete clinical practices under the supervision of licensed respiratory therapists.

      Tuition costs for Long Island University are available upon request. The school offers a number of financial aid options including scholarships, grants and loans.

    Nassau Community College

    • Students looking to attend school outside of the center of the city have the opportunity to attend Nassau Community College in Garden City. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Care and are eligible to become licensed upon graduation. Four semesters are required to complete the program and include courses in respiratory care, anatomy and physiology, medical microbiology, pharmacology and therapeutics. Clinical practice experiences are required before graduation.

      Full time students attending Nassau Community College can expect tuition costs of around $1800 per semester. Financial assistance is available.
