Colleges Specializing in Teaching

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for the field of education are expected to increase by 13 percent through 2018, largely due to the increase of students entering school. However competition for general education jobs may be tight, with those qualified to teach subjects such as math and science having more opportunities. Prospective teachers that attend a school that specializes in teaching will receive an education concentrated on their field of study and graduate prepared to enter the workforce.

    • As a part of Vanderbilt University, Peabody College provides students with the same high quality education that Vanderbilt is known for while focusing on the field of education. Degrees are available at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, with the ability to specialize in a specific field of teaching. Students may choose from degrees in elementary education, secondary education, special education, higher education administration, English as a second language and educational leadership. Joint-degree programs are also available.

      Tuition costs for the 2010-2011 academic year begin at $1,600 per credit hour at the undergraduate level and $1,200 per credit hour for the graduate and doctoral programs. A wide variety of financial aid options are available for students to choose from.

    California State University

    • The Michael D. Eisner College of Education at California State was designed to provide the best possible education to future educators entering the nation's school system. Students may choose from a variety of academic programs, including deaf studies, educational leadership and policy studies, educational psychology and counseling, elementary education, secondary education and special education. Degrees are available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

      Tuition costs are provided by California State University upon request. The school offers a full financial aid office prepared to assist students in paying for their education.

    University of South Florida

    • The College of Education at the University of South Florida provides both undergraduate and graduate degree options for prospective students to choose from. A number of degree programs are available, including early childhood education, behavior disorders, higher education teaching, secondary education, learning disabilities, vocational education and college student affairs. In addition, doctorate programs are available in the fields of adult education, reading and language arts, second language acquisition, special education and social science education.

      Tuition costs for the 2010 academic year vary by program and are available on request when speaking with an admissions adviser. The school provides a number of financial aid options for students who qualify.
