Ohio Teaching Colleges

Ohio teachers are some of the highest paid in the nation. As of August 2010, Ohio is ranked 14th for average teacher salaries, at $48,692 per year. The need for skilled education professionals continues to grow. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of May 2008 the need for teachers was expected to increase 13 percent by 2018. The Buckeye State is home to several excellent schools that offer courses in teaching and education.

    • Brown Mackie College's Associate of Applied Science degree in early childhood education is a program for prospective teachers who wish to work with younger children. Students in the early childhood education program learn fundamentals of educating preschool to third-grade children in math, science and social studies, as well as social behavior and development. The associate of applied science degree can typically be completed within two years. Brown Mackie has several locations in Ohio, including campuses in Cincinnati, Akron, Findlay and North Canton. As of August 2010, the cost of tuition to Brown Mackie College was $12,768.00 per year.

    Ohio State University

    • One of the largest universities in the nation, Ohio State University offers numerous programs through its College of Education and Human Ecology. In Columbus, Ohio State's education programs offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in early childhood education, which focuses on children from age 3 through third grade, and middle education, which focuses on older elementary through high-school students. The university offers various degrees in specialized educational fields such as dramatics, education for the deaf and hearing impaired and specific fields such as math, science and history. As of August 2010, the cost of tuition at Ohio State was $9,420 a year for Ohio residents and $23,604 a year for nonresidents.

    University of Cincinnati

    • The University of Cincinnati's teaching education program was listed among the top schools of education as of August 2010. Undergraduate and graduate programs prepare prospective teachers to work in elementary, middle and high school education. The school also offers undergraduate and graduate degrees for students who wish to specialize in fields such as math, science or history for students between the seventh and 12th grades. As of August 2010, the cost of tuition at the University of Cincinnati was $10,065 a year for Ohio residents and $24,588 a year for out-of-state residents.
