Cuyahoga Community College, also known as Tri-C, offers a two-year associate's program in respiratory care. Students at Cuyahoga Community College learn to draw blood for analysis and perform life saving measures. Students also have the opportunity to participate in patient care plans, diagnostic testing and treatment for patients under the supervision of a physician.
Students must complete two biology courses, one math course and one English course before entering the respiratory therapy program at Tri-C. In addition to the two-year coursework, students have the opportunity to gain experience in summer clinicals. Students also get the chance to learn from physicians and medical professionals at the Cleveland Clinic.

Lakeland Community College offers a two-year associate's degree in respiratory care. Students at Lakeland work in numerous clinical settings. They learn to administer medication, draw and analyse blood samples, and work with the latest life saving equipment.

The University of Akron offers a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy. Students study topics such as cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, biomedical ethics, clinical concepts and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Students also study airway management and mechanical ventilation. In the 4-year program, students work in a hospital setting and have the opportunity to work with professionals from the American Association for Respiratory Care as well as the Ohio Society for Respiratory Care.
