The philosophy of Lawrence School is that differences are not disabilities. The independent, coeducational day school, which caters to students with learning differences and attention deficits, has two campuses. The Lower School, which serves students in grades one to six, is in Broadview Heights. The Upper School, in Sagamore Hills, serves students in grades seven through 12. Lawrence offers small classes, hands-on learning and unique curricula that teach students in its distinct learning styles. The goal is to ignite student potential and inspire academic and social success.
Outreach Academy for Students with Disabilities is a Cleveland charter school that serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade with profound cognitive and physical disabilities. The school takes a holistic and accommodating approach to education through individual attention, flexibility and technology. Outreach Academy uses integrated learning environments which consist of specialists from different disciplines working simultaneously in the classroom. Parents are also encouraged to be actively involved in their child's education.
The Julie Billiart School in Lyndhurst is a Catholic school sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame. The school accepts student of all faiths in grades kindergarten through eight with special learning needs, including learning disabilities, ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. The school has approximately 120 students, with a 5:1 student/teacher ratio. The Billiart School features hands-on, multi-sensory instruction based on individual educational plans for each student. Classroom technology includes smart boards and sound systems, as well as student laptops and wireless Internet access.
The Monarch Center for Autism, located in Cleveland, serves students ages 3 to 22 with autism spectrum disorders. Monarch offers a preschool, a day school for children and adolescents, a transitional education program and a boarding academy. The center also has summer and extended school year programs, family training, support and social activities and consultation and therapy services. Classroom instruction uses the visual language system with visual language technology. The Monarch model consists of seven elements: assessments, visual supports, a media center, technology, natural language curriculum, content area curriculum and outcomes data.
Rose-Mary Center, found in Euclid, is a non-profit organization separately incorporated under Catholic Charities Health and Human Services. The facility has a residential center for 40 school-age children and young adults. The center offers 24-hour-a-day care and uses individual education plans to address the areas of behavior management, mobility and sensory needs, social skills, communication and gross motor and fine motor training. Rose-Mary specializes in serving individuals who need the full array of therapeutic and behavioral intervention services.
