The Gow School is a New York-based boarding school for boys in seventh through 12th grade with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Students attend classes six day a week, and coursework includes English, math, science, health, social studies, journalism, robotics, business, economics, computer science and study skills. All students are required to take the Reconstructive Language course, which provides them individual instruction in vocabulary, phonics, spelling and oral reading. With just three to seven students per class, teachers are able to give children individualized attention. Teaching methods include promoting study strategies, organizational skills and multisensory instruction, which include using as many senses as possible in the learning process. All instructors are required to receive continual training in teaching methods geared toward learning disabilities.

Center School in Abington, Pa., was formed by two parents whose children were struggling in traditional school settings. Center School caters to dyslexic students in elementary and middle school. Traditional courses, such as math, science and language, are taught in a manner to help dyslexic students get more organized and build better work habits. Middle school students will also learn how strategies work and why, as well as when to apply them. Center School's teaching methods are geared toward helping students become independent learners. Each class includes certified reading specialists and two certified teachers teaching as a team.

The de Paul School of Louisville, Ky., is an independent private school designed to teach children who learn differently such as those with dyslexia. The school is open to students in first through eighth grades. Coursework includes language, science, math, social studies, computers, physical education, humanities and personal and social success. Students also study Learning to Learn. This is a part of regular classes where children are taught to examine their learning processes and study techniques and habits. Teaching methods include multisensory experiences that incorporate vision, hearing, touch and movement in studies. Other teaching methods include attention-based instruction that includes small classes and interactive instruction, practice and repetition, and giving explicit instructions. The de Paul School is accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools and the Kentucky Association of Independent Schools.
