How to Convert Kilonewtons to Metric Tons

Metric ton-force, which is often shortened to "metric ton," and kilonewtons are both metric measurements of force. Conversion between kilonewtons and metric ton-force can be accomplished with a simple division or multiplication. There are 9.80665 kilonewtons for every metric ton-force. Therefore, to convert between the two, you would divide kilonewtons by 9.80665 to convert to metric ton-force, or multiply the metric ton-force by 9.80665 to convert into kilonewtons.

Significant figures are the number of digits that make up a measurement without counting any zeros to the left of the first non-zero number. As an example, 0.00036 would only have two significant figures, since you don't count the first four zeros. In the original example, 25 kilonewtons also has two significant figures; therefore, the answer should also have two significant figures. Rounding 2.549291 to two significant figures would give you 2.5 metric ton-force.
