How to Figure Metric Tons

The metric ton, also known as the tonne and abbreviated "t" or "MT," refers to a measure of mass in the metric system. The metric ton is a large unit, equal to 1,000 kilograms. You may need to convert between metric tons and other units, such as kilograms, grams, tons and pounds, in the event that you have multiple masses which you need to compare. You may also need to perform conversions if your scale measures in another unit, but you must report the shipping weight in metric tons.
