How to Convert to Metric Time

Metric time refers to an alternative timekeeping method that uses a base 10 system rather than the base 60 timekeeping method currently used around the world. In metric time, each day is made of 10 metric hours, each hour is made of 100 metric minutes and each minute is made of 100 metric seconds. In the current system, each day is made of 24 hours, each hour made of 60 minutes and each minute made of 60 seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Multiply the number of hours by 3,600 and the number of minutes by 60 to convert to standard seconds. For example, if your standard time equals 4:35:25, multiply 4 by 3,600 to get 14,400 seconds and multiply 35 by 60 to get 2,100 seconds.

    • 2

Add the number of hours measured in seconds to the number of minutes measured in seconds to the number of seconds to find the total time in seconds. In this example, add 14,400 to 2,100 to 25 to get 16,525 seconds.

    • 3

Convert the number of standard seconds to metric seconds by dividing by 0.864. In this example, divide 16,525 by 0.864 to get 19,126 metric seconds.

    • 4

Divide the number of metric seconds by 100 to convert to metric minutes. In this example, divide 19,126 metric seconds by 100 to get 191.26 metric minutes.

    • 5

Divide the number of metric minutes by 100 to convert to metric hours. In this example, divide 191.26 by 100 to get 1.9126 metric hours.
