Forestry Management Courses

Forestry management encompasses many disciplines, from biology and ecology to engineering and law enforcement. Several colleges and universities around the country offer programs in forestry management, often with numerous options that allow students to combine their interest in forestry with other skills to fulfill their career goals.
  1. University of Washington

    • Students in the School of Forest Resources at the University of Washington can earn a bachelor of science degree in forest resources by choosing between two majors. One, Environmental Science and Resource Management, provides a broad-based natural science degree, with such courses as "Wildlife in the Modern World" and "Society and Sustainable Environments." The other major, Bioresource Science and Engineering, is tailored more toward a career in manufacturing fuels, chemicals, and other products from biological resources. Courses in this major include "Paper Properties" and "Natural Products Chemistry."

    North Carolina State University

    • The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University is based in ecology. Among the school's goals is to monitor what environmental change and human activity do to forest ecosystems. The department offers several degree programs, including Environmental Technology and Management; Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology; Forest Management; and two concentrations in the Natural Resources major: Natural Resources-Ecosystem Assessment and Natural Resources-Policy & Administration.

    Oregon State University

    • Three programs make up the College of Forestry at Oregon State University. The first, Forest Engineering, Resources and Management, offers a major in forest engineering, which includes civil engineering as part of the degree. The second program, Forest Ecosystems and Society, offers a major in natural resources, and includes such options as arid land ecology and law enforcement in natural resources. Students choosing the third program, Wood Science and Engineering, can major in renewable materials with emphasis in either management and marketing or science and engineering.

    Penn State University

    • The School of Forest Resources at Penn State University offers three programs that lead to a bachelor of science degree: Forest Science; Wildlife & Fisheries Science; and Wood Products. The first two feature a strong foundation in biology and forestry management. The Wood Products program offers a business and marketing path as well as a processing and manufacturing option.
