Nursing Junior Colleges in Boston, Massachusetts

Several junior and community colleges in Boston, Massachusetts offer two-year nursing programs that lead to an associate's degree in science and a certificate in nursing. Most junior college programs require a high-school or general equivalency diploma (GED) and completion of general educational requirements in math, biology, English and psychology. Completing these programs will enable students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

    • Bunker Hill Community College offers a two-year 69-credit nursing program that results in an associate of science degree. Course curriculum includes college writing, anatomy and physiology lab, human growth development, microbiology, quantitative thought, and seminars. Graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) .

    Massachusetts Bay Community College

    • Massachusetts Bay Community College has an associate in science program in nursing. The day program lasts four semesters and the evening program takes approximately three years to complete. Students must complete 70 credits with general educational requirements in math, English, chemistry and reading assessment. Program classes include anatomy, physiology, critical thinking, computers and technology, microbiology, nursing I, II, II and IV and electives in humanities and social sciences. Graduates will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.

    Roxbury Community College

    • Roxbury Community College has an associate in science nursing day program that admits about 40 students each year; its evening full-time program of slightly smaller size admits students every January. The program offers 70 credits, 10 of which are prerequisite courses including mathematics, English composition, general psychology, and anatomy and psychology. Other courses include foundations of nursing, human growth and development, nursing in health and illness, microbiology, nursing across the life span and issues in professional nursing. Graduates will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.

    NCLEX-RN Examination

    • Submit an application for a nursing license with the Massachusetts Board of Nursing once you have completed your associate's degree. After your application has been approved, you can then register for the NCLEX-RN examination online by visiting the NCLEX website. Mail registration is also possible.
