Residents of California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Texas, and Virginia may take classes in real estate principles, practice, finance, and escrow. Residents of California, District of Columbia, Delaware, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming can take the national USPAP 15-hour course to renew their appraisal license that comes up for renewal once every two years. The 150 hours of appraisal education required for an initial license is also offered according to each state's guidelines.
Residents of California and Florida may study for a real estate broker's license. The 60-hour course for Florida covers both real estate appraisal and finance. In California, additional course offerings include real estate practice, legal aspects, property management, escrow, office administration, and economics.
Starting in 2010, any mortgage broker or agent making real estate loans on owner-occupied property must be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). In order to be so registered, brokers and agents must complete 20 hours of education.
