The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida offers a Doctor of Audiology degree program. This distance learning program is designed for working audiologists who wish to upgrade their knowledge and skills. The 18-month program is delivered in a format of small regional communities led by a group facilitator with participatory online "chats" that encourage engagement with both the material and fellow audiologists. Coursework covers public health, audiologic assessment, auditory electrophysiology, balance disorders, rehabilitation, assistive technology, amplification and hearing conservation.

Bellevue University offers a two-semester Audiology Assistant/Hearing Aid Specialist certificate of completion that can be transferred into one of the more than 20 bachelor degree programs at the university or a degree program at another school. Coursework topics include audiometry, infection control, anatomy and physiology and hearing aid technology. All coursework is delivered online with the exception of a practicum, directed under the supervision of a licensed audiologist, that provides students with valued work experience in a clinical setting prior to graduation.

The Arizona School of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University offers a transitional Doctor of Audiology degree program through online distance education. According to its website, more than 1,800 professional audiologists have successfully upgraded their knowledge and skills through the program as of summer 2010. Applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis, with quarterly starts dates in March, June, September and December. Designed for practicing audiologists, applicants must hold a graduate-level degree in audiology with at least four years of working experience in a clinical setting. A broad range of courses are available, including auditory neuroanatomy, infection control, immittance, assistive listening devices, auditory processing, pharmacology, health informatics, pathologies, pedatric audiology and professional development. Courses are delivered through a combination of web-based video and instruction, clinical projects, assigned readings, e-mail, online chat and online examinations and assignments.
