Oregon State University is the state's largest public research facility and received $252 million in research funding in the 2008 to 2009 academic year. It is also one of only two universities in the nation to have obtained the Sea Grant, Space Grant and Sun Grant designations. These are competitive grant opportunities for students conducting research in marine conservation, STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) studies or alternative and renewable energy. OSU offers the online Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries and wildlife through the university's extended campus. All coursework in the program is completed online except for the required biology laboratories, which may be taken at a local college or university. The curriculum includes study in wildlife conservation, law and behavior in addition to ecosystem restoration, marine science and fishery or game management.
