Online Wildlife Biology Degrees

Wildlife biology includes fields such as ecology, zoology, oceanography, wildlife conservation and wildlife management. Online biology degree programs such as these are limited due to specificity of the disciplines. These programs may be entirely online or partly online, offering both bachelor's and master's degrees. Career options for those holding these degrees include zookeepers, wildlife researchers or wildlife conservation specialists. Higher education levels provide career opportunities as wildlife biologists or professors working within academic, government or environmental industries.
  1. Oregon State University

    • Oregon State University is the state's largest public research facility and received $252 million in research funding in the 2008 to 2009 academic year. It is also one of only two universities in the nation to have obtained the Sea Grant, Space Grant and Sun Grant designations. These are competitive grant opportunities for students conducting research in marine conservation, STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) studies or alternative and renewable energy. OSU offers the online Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries and wildlife through the university's extended campus. All coursework in the program is completed online except for the required biology laboratories, which may be taken at a local college or university. The curriculum includes study in wildlife conservation, law and behavior in addition to ecosystem restoration, marine science and fishery or game management.

    Utah State University

    • Utah State University is recognized for its dedication to research, with more than $138 million in research revenue in 2009. The school is also a leader in distance education, as it offers almost 50 degrees and the state's only doctorate degree online. USU offers a bachelor's degree in wildlife science incorporating online classes and on-site coursework within the school's main Logan Campus. The curriculum focuses on the ecology, conservation, behavior and management of wildlife populations. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in both internship and research opportunities. It prepares students for graduate school or careers as research technicians, wildlife biologists, conservation officers or habitat managers.

    University of West Florida

    • Recognized for its multicultural campus and its emphasis on research, the University of West Florida maintains three on-site campuses and an online campus. The online campus offers more than 200 courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and 17 degree programs with an out-of-state tuition waiver to reduce costs. It offers a bachelor's degree in oceanography from the biology and environmental studies departments. Coursework incorporates the four basic oceanography components: biological, chemical, physical and geological. It was developed for students with an interest in coastal and marine studies and prepares them for careers in marine policy personnel, coastal zone management or oceanography.
