Montana State University offers an online bachelor's degree in modern languages. Students learn German, Japanese, Spanish and French as part of the program. The degree program also allows students to study international business or education. Teaching options are offered in German, Spanish and French. Students outside of the department can minor in French, Chinese, Spanish or German. Each modern language major requires approximately 120 credit hours to complete.

New Mexico State University's online language program is more narrowly focused. Students with a background in Spanish --- two years of study or the equivalent --- can pursue an online master of arts degree in Spanish or Spanish literature. The program requires 36 credit hours. Spanish courses include elementary and intermediate Spanish, Spanish for native speakers, grammar, composition, culture and civilization and Spanish literature.

Auburn offers a master of education degree in foreign-language education for French or Spanish. The program takes approximately two years to complete, including summer terms. Students work with professors who have taught at the high-school level and are required to study abroad. Courses include organization of foreign language programs, curriculum and teaching of foreign languages and program evaluation.
