Medical Schools in Malaysia

Malaysia offers students from all over the world a chance to study medicine and receive an internationally recognized medical qualification. Malaysia is a conservative Muslim country in Asia, with a good infrastructure of transportation and other public services. Statistics were recently announced of 43 physicians for every 100,000 members of the population, which are approximately 20 million people. Malaysia is located in South East Asia and borders Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei.
  1. University of Malaya Medical Center

    • Students who attend the University of Malaya Medical Center study in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. Courses offered at the University include diplomas in radiology, nursing and medical lab technology. Advanced diplomas are available in nursing at the university's own College of Nursing. Postgraduate, undergraduate and diploma courses are conducted at the College of Radiography and the College of Medical Lab Technology. Online applications are accepted on forms that may be downloaded from the university's website.

    Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre

    • The UKM Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur has trained over 1,300 clinical specialists and more than 3,300 doctors. Since the school's opening in 1973, it has grown in size and reputation, adding a number of new departments every few years. A list of the departments, according to the website, includes, among others, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Community Health, Parasitology Entomology, Pathology, Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Radiology, Psychiatry and Family Medicine. Courses the university currently offers include Undergraduate Medical Degree, Advanced Diploma in Midwifery, Medical Degree Graduate Studies and both Diploma and Bachelor of Nursing qualifications.

    School of Medical Sciences (Universiti Sains Malaysia)

    • The USM School of Medical Sciences is located in Kelantan, near the old Royal capital of Johor Baru in the Northeast of Malaysia. Since 1979, the university has been a part of the drive to increase the numbers of qualified medical personnel in Malaysia. The Doctor of Medicine Degree course offered by USM takes five years to complete and successful students may go on to study in any one of the 18 postgraduate clinical specialties the school offers. The resulting degrees are a Master of Science and PhD.
