Medical Travel Grants

Medical organizations offer travel grants to medical students to pay travel fees students incur when attending specific medical conferences. Students awarded travel grants attend specialized medical conferences presented by the organization providing the funds, giving students the opportunity to attend. One organization, the American College of Cardiology, not only awards travel grants, it also awards cash prizes to winners of its annual Young Investigators Competition.
  1. ACPM Travel Grants

    • The American College of Preventive Medicine, a nationwide professional society, offers travel grants to attend the yearly Preventive Medicine conference. The grants assist medical student attendees with travel expenses, including travel costs such as air or train fare, hotel or lodging expenses, as well as conference fees, as outlined on the acpm.org website. Medical students eligible for grants must be members of the 2,400 member ACPM organization. The grants go to qualified students interested in public health, occupational medicine, international health aerospace medicine and other sub-fields in preventative medicine states the acpm.org website. The Preventive Medicine conference, scheduled in the spring, requires students to submit their applications by December of the previous year.

    ACCF Travel Grants

    • The American College of Cardiology offers a Young Investigators Award and travel grants to medical students participating in the annual Young Investigators Competition at the American College of Cardiology's Scientific Session. According to acc.org, $1,500 of each of the 15 finalist's travel expenses will be reimbursed. In addition, cash prizes go to winners of the competition. First place winner receives $2,000, second place winners $1,000 and three honorable mentions in each category receive $500, according to the acc.org website.

    ARVO Travel Grants

    • The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology awards over 200 grants to medical students annually to travel to the ARVO conference to present their research, states the arvo.org website. ARVO encourages training, research and dissemination on advances in and knowledge about vision and the Ophthalmology health field. Qualified individuals must register on the ARVO website.

    MARC Travel Grants

    • The American College of Sports Medicine organization coordinates with the Minority Access to Research Careers to sponsor and fund travel grants to minority medical students attending its annual meeting. Students specializing in the sports medicine field must fill out an abstract and submit it online, according to acsm.org.
