Graduate Travel Grants

Students in a graduate program may be eligible for grants to travel for research or to attend conferences or competitions. These grants tend to be small amounts and can be used for expenses related to the travel. They are given out by institutions of higher education, and many of these schools require students to be enrolled at the school issuing the grant.
  1. SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program

    • The Society of Exploration Geophysicists provides news, event information and networking opportunities to the geoscience community, and it seeks to promote the field of geoscience. The organization also provides travel grants to geoscience graduate students. The grant is given to students who wish to attend the two-day SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program, which teaches students about how the fields of geoscience and geophysics are related to the oil industry. The application deadline for the grant is July, and students must submit an online application. They must also provide a letter of recommendation and their transcript. To be eligible, applicants must be current students with above average grades who have not attended the program before. Students must also reside in the geographical area where the program will be taking place. For example, for the North American conference, students must live in North America. Actual grant amounts will vary based on need.

    • This grant is sponsored by the American Studies Association (ASA), which promotes the study of American history and society. This travel grant is open to advanced graduate students as long as they are members of the ASA. Students should become ASA members before applying for this grant. Students can receive a $300 reimbursement for travel to ASA's national convention, where they must present a paper. The organization gives priority to students who have no financial support from the school that they are representing and who will incur a financial burden because of travel costs. Mailed applications must be received by October. Faxed applications will only be accepted if they are followed by signed originals.
