Tuition Aid Grants

There are state and federal agencies as well as private companies that sponsor grant programs to help students pay for attending school. These grants are used to pay tuition costs as well as book and room and board. Students applying for these grants must demonstrate financial need to qualify. Recipients do not pay back grant funding.
  1. Federal Pell Grant Program

    • The federal Pell grant is one of the basic grant programs for students in the United States. Formerly known as the Basic Educational Opportunity Grant (BEOG) program, Pell grants help students who show financial need attend post-secondary schools. Over 5,400 schools across the U.S. accept Pell grants. To be eligible, students must not have received their first bachelors degree unless they are enrolled in post-baccalaureate programs for teaching. Grant amounts are determined by several factors including the student's enrollment status, the school's cost of attendance, whether the student is attending school for the entire academic year or less and the expected family contribution (EFC). The EFC, which is calculated using the information provided on the student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), is the amount that the student's family can afford to pay for school. No student can receive Pell grants from more than one school at a time.
