This is one of the largest federal tuition grants made available to college students on a rolling basis. The Pell grant is a federal tuition relief grant that does not have to be repaid by the student later. Students applying for the Pell grant must show proof and documentation of their financial need. They must complete an Estimated Family Contribution (FFC) form. The applicant is then assigned an EFC number, which is determined by the household income revealed on his application. Usually Pell grants are awarded on the basis of EFC number rankings. In other words, the amount of household income determines an applicant's ranking and chance to win the grant. Awards are given to those applicants whose annual family income is under $20,000. The amount of the grant varies, but usually falls in the range of $4,000. Other eligibility criteria includes the status of the student during her studies. This refers to being a full-time or part-time student. Awards are also determined by the type of educational institution and the duration of the study program.
This is a federal supplemental tuition grant administered by the university. The award ranges from $100 to $4,000 and is given in conjunction with the Pell grant. The FSEOG is determined by the EFC number. This means that the FSEOG is based on financial need. Other determining factors include the amount of aid you have received from the Pell grant, auxiliary grants and scholarships, including private tuition loans and scholarships. FSEOG applications are also judged on the basis of tuition cost per year, taking into account university financial aid policies and regulations.
The ACG was established in 2006 as a federal tuition relief program for all U.S. citizens in their freshman and/or junior year. The ACG is granted to financially needy students who are already receiving or slated to receive the Pell grant. ACG requires that the applicant have a part-time student status and be studying in a four-year federally accredited institution by his second year of college. The award amounts vary by the year of study. A grant of $750 is given to freshmen and this amount is increased to $1,300 in the second year. Applications are judged competitively.
This federal aid tuition program is awarded to all U.S. citizens enrolled in their third and/or fourth year of college. The grant is offered to students enrolled in the academic fields of science, mathematics, engineering and technology (SMET). SMART awards follow similar admission criteria as those of ACG awards. SMART grants are awarded on a merit and/or need basis with a value of $4,000.
