You become eligible for this grant automatically when filling out FAFSA and can receive up to $10,000.
The American Opportunity Credit allows the first $4,000 of single mothers' higher education to be free. Although you must pay for your expenses upfront, you will receive a tax credit at the end of the year, granted as reimbursement for the cost of your education.
