Both FAMU College of Law and Barry School of Law offer a full-time, three-year daytime program and a part-time, four-year evening program for working students. Full-time and adjunct faculty members at both institutions teach all courses leading to a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
FAMU College of Law has the only Florida Supreme Court-approved Death Penalty Clinic. In addition, its Law Clinic significantly assists in addressing the needs of the elderly in surrounding communities. Barry School of Law provides its students with the opportunity to participate in three clinics: Children and Families, Earth Advocacy and Immigration.
According to each institution's website as of February 2011, FAMU College of Law welcomes an entering class of 289 students annually, while Barry School of Law enrolls 261 students. Roughly 80 and 88 percent are full-time students, respectively. "Princeton Review" reports a 13-to-one student-to-faculty ratio at FAMU College of Law and a 19-to-one student-to-faculty ratio at Barry School of Law.
Both FAMU College of Law and Barry School of Law provide similar educational facilities to students, including a law library, technology-equipped classrooms, moot court, and spaces for student assembly and clinical programs. Both colleges provide student opportunities to engage in pro bono and clinical activities, and observe legal proceedings at the U.S. District Court for Middle District of Florida, the Orange County Courthouse, some of Florida's largest law firms, and numerous public agencies.
