The only college located within the Niceville city limits, Northwest Florida State College is a publicly funded institution that focuses on offering a variety of career-oriented certificate programs. Program options include accounting applications, computer programming, paramedic training and early childhood development, among others. The college does also offer a few degree programs, including an associate degree in applied science and bachelor's degrees in project management, nursing and education. The campus consists of 264 acres and contains both a performing arts center and facilities for intercollegiate sports.
The technology-oriented Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University specializes in shaping capable aviation technicians, scientists and managers. The university has a campus located inside Englin Air Force Base, which is a few miles south of Niceville. While working toward one of the many aeronautical degrees offered at the college, students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning at the fully operational base. Potential degrees include an associate degree in aviation maintenance, bachelor's degrees in professional aeronautics and technical management and a master's degree in aeronautical science. The college also offers a number of undergraduate and graduate certificate programs.
The University of West Florida consists of a group of learning locations without a centralized college campus. Geared toward students that aren't looking for the typical college experience, the university also has a location within the Englin Air Force Base. Here, Air Force service members and civilians can choose from a variety of degree programs including those involving environmental studies, criminal justice and hospitality. The university even offers a master's degree in military history. The university instructs civilians to ask for the directions to the university location at the Englin Air Force Base front gate.
A small college network based out of Alabama, Troy State University also offers a teaching site at the Englin Air Force Base in Florida. With 31,000 students worldwide, Troy University provides educational opportunities for U.S. citizens and international students alike. Most students are undergraduates, studying in the arts, sciences, mathematics and more. Graduate programs include mostly education and business courses. Troy University also offers a number of online courses for students who prefer not to commute.
