Deltona, Florida is the largest city in Volusia County, with a populaton of just over 84,000 as of the 2000 U.S. Census. This sprawling suburb of Daytona Beach is home to a campus of Daytona State College, and there are a number of other colleges and universities in the surrounding area, in cities like DeLand and Sanford.
  1. Daytona State College: Deltona Campus

    • The Deltona campus of Daytona State College is located in the Fathi Hall building of Deltona's Municipal Complex. It offers students both two- and four-year degrees in one of many majors or disciplines, including athletic training, psychology, applied science and engineering. DSC was established in 1957 in nearby Daytona Beach, and the college opened its Deltona campus in August 2004 to accommodate a growing student population.

    Florida Technical College

    • Florida Technical College is a private, accredited junior college that has three campuses in Florida, including one in nearby DeLand. Students take courses criminal justice, healthcare and information technology at FTC, which was founded in 1982, and offers both associate's degrees and diploma programs. Courses are generally small, and are offered as both day and evening classes. Students attend FTC to boost their careers or as a stepping stone toward a four-year college.

    Stetson University

    • Stetson University, founded in 1883, is Florida's first private university. Located in DeLand, it was first known as DeLand Academy; it sits on 175 acres and offers more than 60 majors. As of January 2011, the university had over 2,200 undergraduates from more than 29 countries. It employs almost 200 professors and faculty, which ensures small class sizes and plenty of personalized attention. Stetson also has Florida campuses in Gulfport, Celebration and Tampa.

    Seminole State College

    • Seminole State College, located in Sanford, was known as Seminole State Community College until 2009, when it began offering its first bachelor's degree program. As of January 2011, the school offers five BA programs, all science-related, in addition to its associate's degree programs. First established in 1965, SSC's first permanent structures were built in 1968, and the school's main campus has grown rapidly since then. The school now has five campuses, all in Florida.
