    Knoxville College

    • Knoxville College is a historically black college located in Mechanicsville, a neighborhood of central Knoxville. The college was founded in 1875 by the United Presbyterian Church as a high school for former slaves and in 1931 became a four-year college. Although white students had attended the college in the past, Knoxville formally began admitting whites in 1954. Knoxville's campus is situated on 39 acres and with a total enrollment of over 6,000 students, remains one of the most popular colleges for black students in East Tennessee.

    • South College, formerly known as Knoxville Business College, is a private four-year college with a focus on career building and professional development. A non-residential college, South College has been in Knoxville since 1882. South College awards Master of Health Science degrees , Bachelor of Science degrees, Bachelor of Business Administration degrees and Associate of Science degrees, in addition to a number of academic certificates. Due to increasing popularity of its programs, South moved to a larger facility in West Knoxville in 2006, housing a new library, modern science labs, a student center and writing labs.
