Founded in 1891, the school obtained its current name in 1918 in honor of its founder, David Lipscomb. Vol State's academic divisions include social science, humanities, allied health, business, math and science. Students unable to attend some or all of the courses on-campus may undertake the distance learning option. There is also a dual enrollment option for students wishing to obtain both high school and college credit.
