Junior Colleges in the Chicago Area

The Chicago area, a prominent U.S. job market, is home to several junior colleges designed to train students for careers in a variety of fields. Many of these junior colleges provide local residents with affordable options for education by supporting open enrollment policies and offering credit and non-credit continuing education programs. Each Chicago area college offers local residents the opportunity to earn specialized, career-focused associate degrees as well as general transfer degrees.

    • The College of DuPage in Glen Elyn, Illinois is the third-largest community college in the nation. The junior college is home to nearly 31,000 students each semester. Students can earn a variety general transfer associate degrees, such as an associate of arts in general studies, fine arts and the sciences.

      DuPage junior college also offers career-focused certificates and associate degree programs in a broad range of fields, such as interior design, accounting, dental hygiene, electronics technology and criminal justice. The non-credit continuing education courses available at the College of DuPage are designed for students interested in refreshing job skills.

    City Colleges of Chicago

    • City Colleges of Chicago is the one of the most populated junior college systems within Illinois. The seven campuses within the district serve more than 65,000 students each semester. City Colleges of Chicago, established in 1911, offers two-year associate and general transfer degrees and specialized certificate programs. Career-focused applied science associate's degrees are available in a broad range of fields, such as architecture, health sciences, construction, art, communications and information technology.

      The junior college district includes seven campuses within the Chicago area: Harold Washington College, Kennedy King College, Daley College, Olive-Harvey College, Truman College, Malcolm X College and Wright College.

    Triton College

    • Triton College is located 15 miles from downtown Chicago and boasts a 100-acre campus supporting athletic and arts programs. With an approximate enrollment of 17,000 students annually, Triton College has an average class size of 20. Students at the junior college can earn general transfer associate degrees and career-focused applied science degrees in a variety of fields, including early childhood education, visual communication, marketing management and accounting. Continuing education programs and non-credit adult education courses are also available.
