The City College of San Francisco was founded in 1935. The primary campus is located in the Ingleside neighborhood of downtown San Francisco. The college has a student population of around 100,000 and is the largest junior college in the United States. In addition to the main Ingleside campus, the City College of San Francisco has ten other locations in the various sections of the city.
City College of San Francisco has courses in over 50 different academic programs and 100 occupational disciplines. Some of the college's most notable programs include its Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies program (oldest hospitality program in the country), the Computer Networking and Information Technology program, the Aircraft-Maintenance Technology program and the Dental Assisting program. Almost all of the programs take two years to finish and result in either an associate degree or certificate depending on the program.

Laney College is a junior college founded in 1948 in Oakland, California (15 minutes from the city of San Francisco). The college is one of four other community colleges that are part of the Peralta Community College district. The objective of the college is to provide professional certificate programs as well as associate degrees. Many students who attend Laney College end up continuing their education at a four year institution after graduating from Laney. Some of the most popular programs at the college include business, education and computer science.

Merritt College is located in Oakland, California and is also part of the Peralta Community College District. The college has a unique structure that is separated into two divisions. The first division is entitled Humanities and Social Sciences and consists of Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, History, Ethnic Studies and Anthropology. The second division is entitled Business, Math and Sciences and consists of Biology, Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Technology and Business programs. The College awards associate degrees and professional certifications to students.
