Washington University in St. Louis is considered a top-tier school for many of its undergraduate and graduate degree programs. U.S. News and World Report ranked Washington University's psychology department as the 13th highest rated program in the nation. The department was established in 1924 and has become prolific in graduating psychology majors and PhD graduates. The department is renown for its research programs in four different fields of psychology: behavior, brain and cognition studies, social and personality studies, clinical psychology and aging and development studies. The university produces approximately 200 undergraduate majors each year. The University of Missouri (MU) is the state's second highest rated program, according to U.S. News and World Report. U.S.News rated MU as the 45th highest rated program in the nation. The psychology department at the university consists of about 1,000 undergraduate and 100 graduate students each year. Areas of research that are covered by the program include clinical research, cognition and neuroscience, developmental psychology, quantitative research and social and personality studies. MU's psychology department sponsors 27 different labs or research centers that include the Memory and Cognitive Aging Laboratory and the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab. The department also offers a PhD in the field.

St. Louis University (SLU) was ranked 132nd the nation by U.S. News and World Report making its psychology department the third highest rated program in the state of Missouri. SLU is a university in the Jesuit tradition of the Catholic church, which is known for its academic rigor. The SLU psychology department generally graduates about 100 psychology majors on a yearly basis and averages about 300 students within the department as a whole. Undergraduate majors have the opportunity to participate in a number of different research projects and practica. The department also offers a master's and doctoral level degree in the field in one of three areas: clinical psychology, experimental psychology and industrial-organizational psychology. The department also sponsors two research centers in the St. Louis area, the Center for the Application of Behavioral Sciences and the Psychological Services Center.
