The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor was ranked 2nd among schools for psychology by Collegecrunch.com and 3rd by U.S. News & World Report. The psychology department offers undergraduate degrees with concentrations in general psychology, neuroscience, or brain, behavior and cognitive science. Its graduate program is divided into the areas of clinical, biopsychology, developmental, social, cognition and cognitive neuroscience, and personality and social contexts. It also has three joint programs (with options of education, woman's studies or social work) and six affiliated programs. There is a large emphasis on research as there are 49 research labs in which many findings have been broadcasted.

Tied for 3rd place for top psychology schools by U.S. News & World Report and ranked 4th by Collegecrunch.com is the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA). There are three undergraduate majors offered; Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science in either cognitive science or psychobiology (B.S). Like all of the other schools on this list, UCLA does not offer a separate master's degree program, only a Ph.D. program. Graduate programs are in learning and behavior, behavioral neuroscience, and social, health, clinical, cognitive, quantitiative, or developmental psychology. This school is notable due to the large emphasis on research in its psychology programs.
