Located in the heart of Greensboro, Guilford College offers a forensic biology major and a forensic science minor. The Bachelor of Arts in forensic biology provides students with a foundation in the biological sciences while also requiring courses in crime scene investigation, and the collection and analysis of physical evidence. The minor requires four courses in forensic sciences. Guilford College also offers a bachelor's degree in forensic accounting, a field that is responsible for detecting accounting fraud.

Located approximately 100 miles south of Greensboro in the town of Laurinburg, St. Andrews Presbyterian College offers a bachelor's degree in forensic science. The coursework for this degree includes the typical forensic science courses, but also courses in law, courtroom procedure, crime scene investigation, public speaking and expert testimony, which are all meant to help students fully prepare for careers in the field. Special visits and internships in crime labs and law enforcement agencies are highly encouraged.

Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) established the American Academy of Applied Forensics (AAAF) in 2001 as a way to meet the crime scene investigation needs within the region. Located approximately 90 miles southwest of Greensboro in the city of Charlotte, CPCC's AAAF program provides advanced forensics training to law enforcement officials, coroners, doctors, nurses, and investigative professionals. While located within the college, this is not a traditional college degree, nor is it for beginners in the field. The training courses within this program are concentrated on traditional or digital forensics, and course offerings vary from year to year.

Located just over 200 miles from Greensboro in the mountain town of Cullowhee, Western Carolina University offers a bachelor's degree in forensic science, with concentrations in biology, chemistry and health sciences, and a bachelor's degree in forensic anthropology. Forensic anthropologists work to examine and identify badly decomposed or damaged human remains, and they are often called upon during search and recovery efforts at major disaster scenes.
