Community Colleges Near Boone, North Carolina

The town of Boone is a popular tourist destination in Watuaga County, North Carolina. As part of the Blue Ridge Mountains region, Boone offers plenty of outdoor activities and is also known as a great college town. Boone is home to Appalachian State University, a highly regarded four-year university. There is also one community college campus in Boone, and many others within about 30 miles of the town.

    • Founded in the 1960's, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute is a public two-year college with almost 100 associate degree, certificate and diploma programs. CCCT&I's main campus is in Hudson, about 27 miles from Boone, but its Watauga Campus and Watauga Continuing Education Center are both right in Boone. CCCT&I has an annual enrollment of 4,000 curriculum and 8,000 continuing education students, as well as 285 full-time faculty and staff employees. According to the College Board, the most popular associate degree majors at CCCT&I are health professions, business/marketing, liberal arts, computer and information sciences, and education.     Wilkes Community College

    • Wilkes Community College has three campuses serving Wilkes, Ashe, and Allegheny Counties. The main campus in Wilkesboro is about 28 miles from Boone, while the Ashe campus in Jefferson is even closer, about 16 miles from Boone. The Ashe campus offers seven full associate degree programs, including a curriculum that will transfer to four-year colleges, and continuing education and certificate courses. According to the College Board, WCC has 2,430 degree-seeking students, and the most popular associate-degree majors are liberal arts, business/marketing, health professions, engineering technologies, construction trades, and education. WCC also offers programs in horticultural services, radio/television broadcasting, computer and information sciences, mechanic and repair technologies, personal and culinary services, welding technology, and security and protective services.

    Mayland Community College

    • Mayland Community College is a public two-year college with three campuses. MCC's main campus in Spruce Pine is about 31 miles from Boone, and its Avery Campus in Newland is only about 17 miles from Boone. The Avery Campus focuses on continuing education and offers computer classes, occupational classes and health occupation classes. According to College Board data, 1,641 undergraduates are pursuing associate degrees at MCC, and the most popular majors are health professions, business/marketing, liberal arts, education and engineering technologies.
