Greensboro is the third largest city in the state of North Carolina. The city is home to a number of tourist and local attractions, including the International Civil Rights Center & Museum, opened to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the sit-in movement in February 2010. The city is also home to a number of historically black colleges and universities as well as state and private universities.     • Bennett College is a historically black college founded in 1873 and reorganized as an all women’s college in 1926. Bennett College’s current enrollment includes 709 full-time and 57 part-time students. Major areas of study include arts management, biology, business administration, elementary education, mass communications, psychology, mathematics and a number of other liberal arts degree programs. As of 2010, tuition and fees total $15,324 and an additional $6,736 for room and board for students who attend the school from out of state.

    North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

    • North Carolina A&T is a historically black university founded in 1891. The university offers 117 undergraduate degree programs, more than 58 master’s degree programs and Ph.D. programs in mechanical, electrical and industrial programs; energy and environmental systems and leadership studies. The university graduates the largest number of African-Americans engineers and psychology undergraduates in the nation.

    Greensboro College

    • Greensboro College is a private, not-for-profit school with a current enrollment of 1279 students, located in downtown Greensboro. The college was founded in 1838 and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Primarily an undergraduate college, Greensboro college offers graduate courses in only three areas of study: teaching English to speakers of other languages, elementary education and special education. The student-teacher ratio is 14:1, allowing students a small class environment and a personalized education experience. A total of 39 academic majors and 16 sports are offered at the school.

    • High Point University is a private liberal arts, not-for-profit university located in High Point, North Carolina about 14 miles from the city of Greensboro. The university has about 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled as of 2010. High Point University offers day and evening undergraduate programs in arts and sciences and evening graduate programs.
