TV & Film Broadcasting Schools

Students wishing to train in television and film broadcasting can gain extensive training through the accumulation of basic knowledge in TV and video production, writing and research, speech and reading techniques, and the overall understanding of broadcasting. The United States has several schools specializing in the area of broadcasting and its hands-on practice and implementation.
  1. New York Film Academy

    • New York Film Academy offers a host of programs for professions relating to film and TV. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the academy's curricula focuses on in-class instruction combined with practical, hands-on work. The academy offers a degree in broadcast journalism with an emphasis on investigative reporting. This program consists of either a one-year conservatory program or a four-week, eight-week or evening journalism workshop. The program trains students in researching, reporting, digital production, editing, anchoring and show production, enabling graduates to work as journalists, investigative journalists and anchor people or behind the scenes as producers, editors, directors or camera people. The school also introduces students to state-of-the-art digital technology and other methods, and students have opportunities to practice their skills in weekly student broadcasts.

    Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting

    • The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting, operating since 1986, focuses on all aspects of broadcasting through its intensive, hands-on program. Accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, the institution has five locations throughout Ohio and Illinois: Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Chicago and Denver. Instructors conduct classes during the day, in the afternoon and in the evening. The center offers programs for students wanting to be television anchors, reporters, broadcast personalities, radio announcers, sportscasters, weathercasters, traffic reporters, voiceover talents and other behind-the-scenes careers. The curricula includes reading and speaking techniques, audio production, broadcast interviewing techniques, TV talk shows, telecommunications, news announcing and other relevant courses. The center also provides internships with local radio and TV stations as well as job placement assistance through its Graduate Relations Department.

    New England Institute of Art

    • The New England Institute of Art is a branch of The Art Institutes, which has numerous locations around the country. The Art Institutes specializes in creative arts programs, including design, hospitality and media. The New England Institute of Art offers degrees in audio production, digital filmmaking and video production, graphic design, media arts and animation, sound and motion picture technical arts, and Web design and interactive media. It also offers a specific broadcasting degree program in which students learn to write scripts, produce shows, manage TV and radio stations, promote on-air personalities, and record audio for the radio, television, cable, film and interactive media markets. Students also study sales, public relations, business management and financial management. Graduates seek careers as television broadcasting directors and producers, sportscasters, broadcasters, newscasters, assistant record producers and announcers.
