As part of the Cleveland State University campus, the School of Communication offers several majors, including a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Digital Media. This program features three different concentrations to choose from. A concentration in film teaches students how to write, produce and edit pieces. As of Fall 2010, the film concentration requires a minimum of 44 credits taken within the major, 8 of which must be approved theory courses. In order to receive a degree, GPAs must remain at 2.25 or higher.
Ohio University's College of Fine Arts provides a smaller school specifically for film studies. The school offers four different degree programs, two undergraduate and two graduate. As an undergraduate, students choose between a film minor and an Honors Tutorial College Bachelor of Fine Arts. Graduate students can earn a Masters of Arts or a Masters of Fine Arts in Film. The tutorial program is highly selective, requiring a minimum ACT score of 30 or a combined SAT score of 1,300 for eligibility. Once enrolled, students engage in intense film production courses, culminating in a thesis during their fourth year.
Film Connection Film Institute presents itself as a film school that isn't like other, more traditional film schools. Film Connection gives students an inside look at film production with an opportunity to work within a film production company as an intern. The school offers two programs. With the first, students enrolled study the industry within their current location, teamed up with a mentor that currently works in the industry. The second program teaches students within Los Angeles. The Cleveland School, part of the first program, offers tracks in directing, producing, editing, camera operation, screenwriting and general production.
The University of Toledo's College of Arts and Sciences has a separate department for film and theatre students. Thesis projects must be completed for graduation.
