Vet Tech Schools in Ohio

The career field of veterinary technicians is expected to grow 36 percent from 2008 to 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Vet technicians are responsible for a variety of tasks, including conducting lab tests and assisting in surgery. They generally work in animal hospitals and private veterinary practices, but they can also work at research facilities, zoos and aquariums.   1. Cuyahoga Community College

    • Cuyahoga Community College is in Cleveland, Ohio. Cuyahoga offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology, which consists of about 72 credits divided into five semesters. Students take courses such as microbiology to anesthesiology. To qualify for the program, students need to have a high school diploma and get a background check, among other things. Students are also required to shadow at a vet clinic for 10 hours before applying to the program. Financial aid is available to qualifying students.

    Vet Tech Institute

    • The Vet Tech Institute is in several cities across the U.S., including Columbus, Ohio. The Vet Tech Institute trains students over a 16-month period to perform tasks such as office procedures, lab tests, sanitizing, running IVs and taking x-rays. Upon completion of the program, students complete an externship. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

    Columbus State Community College

    • Columbus State Community College is in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus State offers a variety of health-care programs, including a vet tech program. Upon completion of the program, students graduate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. This two-year vet tech program prepares students to assist in surgical procedures, administer treatments, maintain medical records and prepare equipment, among other duties. To qualify for the program, students need to be a high school graduate, be computer literate, get a background check and health test and have health insurance. Financial aid is available to students with financial need.
