Ultrasound technician programs are also referred to as diagnostic medical sonography programs. Diagnostic medical sonographers operate diagnostic equipment that aids doctors in diagnosing patient's health problems. In Ohio, there are many college options for those wishing to pursue a degree or certificate in diagnostic medical sonography. According to Indeed.com, the average salary for sonographers in Ohio was about $56,000 a year as of May 2010.

    • Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is a public two-year college located near central Cincinnati, Ohio. CSTCC offers a fully accredited diagnostic medical sonography (DMS) program that leads to an associate in science degree. CSTCC also offers a certificate DMS program if you already have an associate degree or are licensed in another health care field. Both programs offer two different curricula, an abdominal OB/GYN curriculum and a cardiovascular curriculum. Some of the classes you will take in these programs include Intro to Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Intro to General Imaging Scanning and Sonographic Physics/Instrumentation. You will also take abdominal, OB/GYN and cardiovascular classes depending on the curriculum you choose, and will participate in labs and a clinical internship. Once you complete one of the DMS programs you will qualify to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers exam to become a licensed sonographer.

    • Lorain County Community College is a public two-year college located just west of Cleveland, Ohio. LCCC offers a fully accredited diagnostic medical sonography program that will make you eligible to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers exam to become a licensed sonographer. LCCC's DMS program is a 72-credit-hour curriculum that takes about two years to complete. Some of the classes you will take in this program are Anatomy and Physiology, Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation, Professional Issues in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Cross-Sectional Anatomy. These classes are taken in classroom, lab and clinical settings. Graduating from this program will earn you an associate in science degree in diagnostic medical sonography.

    • Owens Community College is located just south of Toledo, Ohio, in Perrysburg. OCC is a two-year public college that offers a fully accredited diagnostic medical sonography program. OCC's DMS program is a 73-credit-hour program that takes about two years (six semesters) to finish.
