The Seventh-Day Adventist Church founded the Kettering College of Medical Arts in 1967 in Kettering, a suburb of Dayton. The college grants an associate degree in diagnostic medical sonography and a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions with programs taking two and four years to complete, respectively. To enroll in the program, students must complete approximately one year of undergraduate prerequisites at an accredited college or university, gain CPR certification and pass a criminal background check. The program includes coursework in vascular, abdominal, cardiac, gynecological and obstetric sonography as well as religious-themed classes, such as Christian perspectives on bioethics. Students complete three short clinical rotations and one extended term-long internship. In addition to federal and state loans and grants, Kettering offers a limited number of work-study opportunities. The school's Spiritual Life program hosts regular social events and organizes chapel services on campus.
