Community Colleges in Seattle, Washington

Community colleges offer an alternative to four-year programs. Courses are usually designed to accommodate the schedules of working adults, are open to anyone with a high school diploma or general-equivalency degree and tend to cost less that four-year programs. There are three community colleges in Seattle, all accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Seattle's community colleges all offer transfer agreements with 26 public and private four-year institutions in Washington.
  1. Seattle Central Community College

    • Seattle Central Community College is in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, just east of downtown. Students have access to free services like tutoring, advising, counseling, multicultural support services, and career assistance, as well as affordable child care. Students can work out at SCCC's fitness center or join more than 40 clubs and organizations on campus.

      SCCC offers transfer associate of arts and associate of science degrees, as well as associate of applied science degrees in fields like apparel design, commercial photography, dental hygiene, network design, respiratory care, opticianry, specialty desserts and breads, marine carpentry and web development.

      SCCC offers a four-year bachelor's degree in behavioral science. Over 20 professional certificate programs are also available, in areas like chemical dependency specialist, child and family studies, graphic design and web design.

    North Seattle Community College

    • About five miles north of downtown Seattle, North Seattle Community College offers associate degrees of arts, science, business, fine arts and applied science.

      Associate degrees are designed for students who wish to transfer into a four-year college or university. NSCC offers professional degrees and certificates in fields such as accounting, business, early childhood education, electronics, engineering, CAD, health, medical, information technology and real estate. Cross-disciplinary degrees and certificates that combine transfer with professional credits are also available.

      Subjects include communication, business and media, nanotechnology and green energy. NSCC's campus features a bookstore, a wellness center, two cafes, a coffee shop, a career center, a counseling center and a WorkFirst office.

    South Seattle Community College

    • South Seattle Community College offers a variety of associate degrees, all focused on transfer to a four-year institution. SSCC also provides professional and technical degrees and certificates in fields like accounting, automotive, aviation, commercial driving, diesel and heavy machinery technology, landscape horticulture and wine technology.

      Students can obtain a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. The Continuing Education department offers a variety of computer technology training classes in subjects like A+ and CISCO. SSCC also provides apprenticeship placement and industrial first-aid training. Worker retraining is available, as is a program for high school students who want to get a head start on gaining college credits.
