The Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology (GALCIT) is one of the nation's oldest aeronautical institutions. In 1926, with the support of the philathropist Daniel Guggenheim, the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory established itself as a leader in aeronautical innovations. Today, the tradition of innovation continues as GALCIT takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of mechanics and looks to the future with research focused on biomechanics, biopropulsion, micro-and nanomechanics as well as space science. GLACIT is housed in the newly redesigned, futuristic Guggenheim Building, setting the mood for innovation.
