The Recording Connection Audio Institute was founded in 1984 and is located in Los Angles, California. While the headquarters for this school is located in Los Angles, students are able to learn in their own city as The Recording Connection Audio Institute features audio engineer mentors throughout the country. Thus, after enrolling, students are connected with a professional audio engineer and begin training directly in a recording studio. Throughout the program, students participate in a total of 20 lessons. These courses include an introduction to sound, digital audio basics, introduction to recording consoles, pro tools, audio processing, dynamic based signal processing, sync and automation, recording and mixing as well as surround sound mixing. As of 2010, the total tuition for the audio engineering program is $7,750. Students may pay in full or select between two payment plans: one year program with a monthly payment of $530.25 (as of 2010) or a two year program with 12 monthly payments of $275 and an additional 12 month payments of $310 (as of 2010).

The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences is located in Tempe, Arizona. The Master Recording Program II is a 42 week program consisting of 41 credit hours. Courses within this program include Audio Recording & Production, Music Business, Digital Recording, Pro Tools, Sound Reinforcement, Troubleshooting & Maintenance and Career Management. Upon completing the required 41 credit hours, students must complete a 12 week internship within a recording studio. The goal of this program is to provide students with theory as well as hands-on experience to prepare for entry-level jobs as audio engineers. Upon graduating, students receive a Master Recording Program II Diploma as well as eight software/hardware certifications. As of 2010, the tuition for the Master Recording Program II is $13,510; however, this does not include books and supplies or room and board. Financial aid is available as well as a no-interest monthly payment plan.

The Los Angeles Recording School is situated in the middle of Hollywood, California on Sunset Boulevard, which is located near all major record labels and recording studios. The audio engineering program consists of 950 hours of audio training within professional recording studios over the course of 28 weeks (minimum of 36 hours per week). This program consists of 13 courses, which include advanced midi, advanced recording, digital audio essentials, entertainment business, film sound, career development, mastering, music production and sound foundations. All courses are taught by working industry professionals to ensure information is accurate as well as to help students network within the music industry. As of 2010, tuition for US residents is $24,620 while non-US residents must pay $25,620. Financial aid is available for all students. Applicants must hold a high school diploma, or GED, and be at least 18 years old upon applying.
