The surgical technologist associate degree program at Rasmussen College is a blended program consisting of online and residential components. Core courses include medical terminology, microbiology and pharmacology. Students also meet humanities, mathematics, and natural and social science requirements. Clinical experience is gained by way of a practicum in which students work as surgical technology assistants. The practicum sites are located at health clinics and hospitals in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oregon, South Dakota and Montana.

Aspiring surgical technologists can select from either a 10-month certificate or two-year associate degree at Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The accredited program is open to students who have high school diplomas with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Admitted students take courses in anatomy, medical terminology, surgical principles, patient care and microbiology. Clinical practice courses provide students with hands-on experience in an operating room setting. Associate degree students take about half of their credits in general education courses. Graduates of the program are prepared to take the Association of Surgical Technologists' certification exam.
