Texas A&M Ph.D. Programs

Texas A&M University, founded in 1876, is the oldest public university in Texas. Located in College Station, the university has nearly 50,000 students studying in more than 250 degree areas. There are 10 colleges at Texas A&M, all offer Ph.D. programs. Depending on the departments within each college, some degree programs will be offered from bachelor's up to Ph.D., while others will only award master's to Ph.D. or only Ph.D..
  1. College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

    • The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences awards around 1,200 bachelor's degrees and 200 graduate degrees, making it the largest department of its kind in the United States. There are 40 undergraduate, more than 50 graduate and 19 Ph.D. programs. Students wishing to obtain a Ph.D. can choose from a variety of fields, including plant or animal sciences, breeding, management, biochemistry, agronomy, soil, wildlife and fisheries sciences. The college partners with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Service agencies, giving students opportunities unavailable at other institutions.

    College of Education and Human Development

    • The College of Education and Human Development was established in 1969 and as of July, 2010, has nearly 4,000 undergraduate and more than 1,300 graduate students. Of the college's 11 degree programs, all but two are offered at the Ph.D. level. There are four departments within the college consisting of fields in psychology, agricultural management, health education and kinesiology, among others.

    Dwight Look College of Engineering

    • The Dwight Look College of Engineering is the largest college at Texas A&M with an enrollment of nearly 8,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduates. The college has 12 departments and offers 15 Ph.D. programs in areas including aerospace, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean and petroleum engineering. The college's degree programs consistently rank in the top 20 best public graduate programs, with several in the top five, according to "U.S. News and World Report" rankings.

    College of Liberal Arts

    • Out of the dozens of colleges at Texas A&M, the College of Liberal Arts contains the most faculty and awards the most number of undergraduate degrees each year. Among its 10 Ph.D. programs, six are ranked among the top 50 public institution programs by "U.S. News and World Report." Nine of its Ph.D. programs offer degrees at the bachelor's and master's level. Hispanic Studies is unique in that students can only obtain a Ph.D. in the subject.
