Research at Duke is focused on three primary areas---vascular biology, inflammation research and tumor biology. The Ph.D. program at Duke generally takes four or five years to complete. Utah's experimental pathology program provides students with a combination of clinical research experience and lecture and seminar courses in various fields, such as structural methods, biophysical chemistry, genetics and genomes, biological chemistry and cell biology. The University of Utah also offers a medical residency program, where students can receive additional training in clinical pathology and anatomic pathology. The university offers both a bachelor's of science and a master's of science degree program in pathology as well.
