In additional to working in a hospital environment, the program prepares residents to work in private practice and academic settings. The program features a small class size with a rigorous curriculum including lectures, seminars, conferences and journal clubs. It also includes thorough training in the frozen section laboratory. Residents in the program have access to a variety of types of laboratory specimens and materials from the Mayo Clinic's active surgical pathology consultation practice. Residents who have completed the residency program are prepared to take the American Board of Pathology certification examination.
