Clinical Engineering Schools

Clinical engineering, a sub-field of biomedical engineering, involves technology management of medical equipment to ensure safety, effectiveness and functionality. The trade society for clinical engineers, the American College of Clinical Engineering, offers membership and training opportunities for professionals in the industry. Students preparing for a career in clinical engineering may join as a member in the candidate category.
  1. California State University Long Beach

    • The Department of Electrical Engineering at California State University Long Beach offers a bachelor's degree in engineering with a focus in biomedical and clinical engineering. Students are provided with a foundation in mathematics, chemistry, anatomy, biology, physics and physiology applicable to the medical or industrial fields. Courses in the program include computer programming and problem-solving, electric and electronic circuits, thermodynamics and health care delivery systems engineering. Students in their senior year have the opportunity to choose elective courses that complement their discipline and career interests. For example, students planning to move on to a medical or dental degree can select advanced-level classes in biology and chemistry. Senior students also complete a design course and project. On-campus laboratories for anatomy and physiology give students hands-on experience.
